Uba, Abdullahi Ibrahim; Zengin, Gokhan; Montesano, Domenico; Cakilcioglu, Ugur; Selvi, Selami; Ulusan, Musa Denizhan; Caprioli, Giovanni; Sagratini, Gianni; Angeloni, Simone; Jugreet, Sharmeen
In this study, six extracts of Arabis carduchorum prepared from solvents of varying polarity (water, methanol, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, and n‐hexane) were investigated for their chemical profiles and total phenolic and flavonoid contents (TPC/TFC) using HPLC–MS/MS and spectrophotometric/colorimetric assays, respectively, along with the assessment of their antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory effects. In general, the polar extracts (methanol, water, and infusion) showed higher TPC/TFC than the other extracts (range:13.73–26.62 mg GAE/g; 2.66–52.95 mg RE/g, respectively). The total antioxidant capacity of the polar extracts ranged from 0.90–1.85 mmol TE/g in phosphomolybdenum assay, while the free radical scavenging potential ranged from 4.36–32.13 mg TE/g and 12.58–67.73 mg TE/g in DPPH and ABTS assays, respectively. While the water and infuse extract inhibited only butyrylcholinesterase (2.68 and 2.39 mg GALAE/g, respectively), the other extracts were found to inhibit both acetyl‐ and butyryl‐cholinesterases (0.96–2.73 mg GALAE/g and 1.86–5.11 mg GALAE/g, respectively). On the contrary, all extracts exhibited anti‐tyrosinase (40.24– 59.22 mg KAE/g) and anti‐amylase (0.09–0.63 mmol ACAE/g) activities. Overall, this study highlighted the effect of solvent polarity on the extraction of bioactive compounds and the biological properties of the extracts of A. carduchorum; hence, the results obtained could be used to guide optimum extraction in future studies.

Pihtili, Güzin; Hekim, Seda; Pekdemir, Mustafa Ersin
A new copolymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-nbutylmethacrylate) was synthesized by free radical solution polymerization process using 2,2′-Azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) as an initiator in 1,4-dioxane at 70 °C. The structure of the copolymer was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR), the proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), and the ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) method. Theoretically, density functional theory (DFT) (B3LYP) was utilized to identify the molecular geometry and then examine the vibrational frequencies and electrical characteristics of this molecule, with the 6-31G basis set in the ground state. In dichloromethane solution, UV-vis spectra of the molecule were calculated using the Time-Dependent DFT method. 1H NMR chemical shifts have been calculated with GIAO approximation, and the calculated results show good agreement with experimental chemical shifts.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Scopus SJRQ1Graphene-reinforced novel poly(acetoxystyrene-co-glycidylmethacrylate) composites: Synthesis and optimization of dielectric behaviors using response surface methodology
Pihtili, Güzin
In this work, a new copolymer synthesis of Poly(acetoxystyrene-co-glycidylmethacrylate) (P[AOS-co-GMA]) by free radical polymerization (FRP) method is reported. The polymer composites (P[AOS-co-GMA]/graphene), containing different amounts of graphene, were prepared by the solution casting technique. Composites of Poly(acetoxystyrene-co-glycidylmethacrylate) loaded with 2.03 mass%, 5.00 mass%, 7.97 mass%, and 10 mass% graphene. The structure of AOS-GMA systems was characterized by fourier transform infrared, 1H-NMR and scanning electron microscopy. Thermal features were evaluated by the thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The aim of this study is to optimize the ε′ (dielectric constant) and ε′′ (dielectric loss factor) of pure polymer and graphene-doped (2.03-5-7.97-10 mass%) P(AOS-co-GMA) composite using response surface methodology. For optimization of the process and creation of the mathematical model, the central composite design package was used. The significance of the process parameters in the model was evaluated by analysis of variance (ANOVA) research. The effects of process parameters, frequency (Hz), voltage (V), and graphene ratio (mass%) on ε′ and ε′′ were examined at ambient temperature. The maximum ε″ value (8.01) was reached at around the 699 Hz frequency and at 11.43 V voltage at the graphene content of 9.82 mass%. The model estimated the maximum value of the ε′′ (0.08) when the frequency was set at 51.20, the voltage was fixed at 1.16 and the graphene content was fixed at 9.97 wt%. The ANOVA results showed that frequency and graphene content were the main model parameters and had a remarkable effect on the dielectric properties. This article presents the development of a new polymeric composite and optimize effect of process parameters, such as frequency (A), voltage (B) and amount of graphene (C).

- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Scopus SJRQ2The effect of COVID-19 restrictions on sleep quality of university students and variables predicting sleep quality
Bulut, Arzu; Sengul, Halil; Uslu, Yeter Demir; Bas, Kazim; Tosun, Nurperihan
BACKGROUND/AIM: The COVID-19 pandemic has created a long period of stress for people worldwide and has significantly affected sleep duration. The pandemic revealed new stress factors that are likely to affect sleep. Uncertainty is a factor that leads to anxiety and depression, which affects sleep. It should also be noted that reductions in sleep quality rather than sleep duration are associated with negative consequences on mental health. This study aims to investigate online that how this situation affected university students. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This research, with a descriptive study design, was conducted in Turkey between June 01, 2021 and July 30, 2021. The sample included 604 people who accepted voluntary participation, chosen by the random selection method. In the study, sociodemographic information form, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), morningness-eveningness questionnaire scale (MEQ Scale), Beck depression inventory (BDI), and Beck anxiety inventory (BAI) were used as data collection tools. Pearson correlation analysis was utilized to examine the relationship between the scales. Multiple regression analysis was performed to investigate the role of morningness-eveningness, anxiety, depression, and insomnia severity on sleep quality. RESULTS: Sleep quality was negatively correlated with morningness-eveningness scores (r = -0.32, P < 0.01), and positively and significantly related with anxiety (r = 0.43, P < 0.01), depression (r = 0.40, P < 0.01) and insomnia severity (r = 0.55, P < 0.01). According to regression coefficients, while anxiety (β = 0.041, P < 0.001) and insomnia severity scores (β = 0.226, P < 0.001) positively predicted sleep quality, depression did not predict it significantly (β = 0.009, P > 0.05). A significant difference was found in sleep quality according to morning, evening, and intermediate types (F = 27.401, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Events related to the COVID-19 pandemic are associated with reduced sleep quality in connection with increasing negative moods. Considering the importance of sleep for a healthy life, efforts should be made to raise awareness about this issue and to provide psychological help to affected individuals.

This study was to evaluate the BHA and basil essential oil on the quality attributes of deep-fried sardine fillets and frying oil. The extent of lipid oxidation was monitored by measuring peroxide value (PV), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), TBA, and changes in free fatty acids. Sensory analysis and color values upon the frying period were also determined. PV, FFA, TBA, and TBARS values in fish fillets and frying oil have peaked and then decreased at the end of frying except for the control. BEO showed the highest sensory scores compared to others. As a result, it is not possible to make a clear judgment about the effect of the natural or synthetic antioxidants on all lipid oxidation products that may occur during frying both fish fillets and frying oil. This study suggests that secondary oxidation products in frying oil and the sensorial quality of fish fillets can be better controlled by using basil essential oil.

Aktağ, Işıl Gürsul; Hamzalıoğlu, Aytül; Kocadağlı, Tolgahan; Gökmen, Vural
The amount of acrylamide in asparagine rich thermally processed foods has been broadly monitored over the past two decades. Acrylamide exposure can be estimated by using the concentration of acrylamide found in foods and alternatively, biomarkers of exposure are correlated. A better estimation of dietary acrylamide exposure is crucial for a proper food safety assessment, regulations, and public health research. This review addresses the importance of the presence of neglected Maillard reaction intermediates found in foods, that may convert into acrylamide during digestion and the fate of acrylamide in the gastrointestinal tract as a reactive compound. Therefore, it is questioned in this review whether acrylamide concentration in ingested foods is directly correlated with the dietary exposure to acrylamide.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Scopus SJRQ1Performance evaluation of Turkish Universities by an integrated Bayesian BWM-TOPSIS model
Gul, Muhammet; Yucesan, Melih
This study aims to develop a university ranking model with the aid of performance measures in the “University monitoring and evaluation reports-2019” published by the Council of Higher Education Institution in Turkey. In this context, some of the performance criteria stated in these reports are filtered and 34 sub-criteria under five main criteria are weighted using the Bayesian Best-Worst Method (BBWM). Then, 189 listed public and private universities are ranked using the TOPSIS multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) method. We have adopted the MCDM concept because many evaluation criteria/sub-criteria and alternative universities are taken into account. For this study, we apply an integrated MCDM model. First, we use BBWM to accomplish the first goal and adopt the TOPSIS method for the second purpose, using the BBWM results. Our purpose in using BBWM is due to its probabilistic structure that reduces the loss of information when handling group decisions. In this context, the evaluations of 11 academic experts are combined and a solid weighting is made by obtaining the credal rankings of performance criteria. Using TOPSIS is its logic of proximity to ideal and the ability to evaluate many alternatives. In the context of the study, state-private university-based, nomenclature of territorial units for statistics-2 (NUTS-2)-based and classical geographical regions-based rankings are also discussed. The study seeks to help universities optimize their performance efficiently. The results of the study can be adapted as a reference for other educational institutions and public institutions in their efforts to evaluate, improve their performance and form various policies.

In this study, fatty acids, fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K vitamins) and cholesterol contents of wild-caught and farm-raised rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were compared. The amounts of docosahexaenoic acid (22:6 n-3, DHA) in wild and farmed forms were 21.56%–18.14%, 18.79%–16.21% and 14.34%–11.49% in April, May and June, respectively. Vitamin E, which is one of the fat-soluble and antioxidant vitamins, showed highest level among the vitamins. Vitamin E levels in both wild and farmed fish were 5.11–4.26, 4.83–2.89 and 0.99–1.95 mg/100 g in April, May and June, respectively. The substantial difference between wild and farmed rainbow trout was found in May (p < 0.05). In conclusion, both wild and farmed rainbow trout from Keban Dam Lake (Pertek Region) can be considered as good sources of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). However, it was observed that the n-3 PUFA level in wild form was higher than the culture fish within the investigated monthly periods. On the other hand, farmed fish demonstrated higher levels of n-6 PUFA over the wild individuals.

Pekdemir, Mustafa Ersin; Tanyol, Mehtap; Torğut, Gülben
In this study, poly (ε-caprolactone)/Fe3O4 magnetic nanocomposite (PCL/Fe3O4 MNC) was synthesized by ring-opening polymerization. Then, PCL/Fe3O4 MNC was used as a novel adsorbent to remove remazol brilliant violet 5R (RBV 5R) from the aqueous media. The effects of PCL/Fe3O4 MNC dosage, process time, and initial RBV 5R concentration on the removal of RBV 5R were studied using the central composite design (CCD) method. The adsorption process was optimized using the response surface methodology, and the optimum conditions were defined. Optimum RBV 5R removal of 95.40% was obtained at a contact time of 167.98 min, PCL/Fe3O4 MNC dosage of 0.40 g, and RBV 5R concentration of 7.18 mg L−1. The process was also designed using the adsorption kinetic models and isotherm. The experimental data of RBV 5R adsorption on PCL/Fe3O4 MNC followed the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models than the other models. Morphological and chemical properties of the adsorbent-adsorbate system indicated the high adsorption yield of RBV 5R on PCL/Fe3O4 MNC was achieved. The structural characteristics of the PCL/Fe3O4 MNC were analyzed by Fourier-transform infrared, attenuated total-reflectance (ATR), and X-ray diffraction. ATR tests showed that no significant change in chemical bond is found in PCL/Fe3O4 MNC before and after the adsorption process. The morphology of composites was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. A vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) was used for the measurement of the magnetic property. Thermal analysis of MNC was studied using thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry instruments.

Gürler, Nedim; Torğut, Gülben
In this study, polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) and polylactic acid (PLA)-Graphene (G) nanocomposite films were synthesized by taking different concentrations of G via the solution casting process, and their structural, mechanical, opacity, thermal and dielectric properties were examined for the first time. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used for investigating surface morphology. Films containing graphene were more opaque than films without graphene. The incorporation of graphene into the polymer matrix improved the mechanical property. The tensile strengths of the control PHA/PLA film and the graphene-reinforced 1 %G-PHA/PLA nanocomposite films were 18.98 and 24.34 MPa, respectively. Thermogravimetric analysis results showed that PHA/PLA−G nanocomposites had good thermal stability below 300 °C. Considering the dielectric measurements, it is seen that the dielectric constant (έ) and dielectric loss (ϵ”) decreased with increasing frequency and less changed at higher frequencies. The developer feature of graphene is remarkable in both parameters. The electrical conductivity of PHA/PLA−G nanocomposites was also examined as a function of frequency at room temperature. As the amount of G increased from 1 %wt to 5 %wt, the conductivity of the composites increased.

Aydinl, Sevinc; Alatas, Mevlut; Batan, Nevzat
In this study, DPPH and fatty acid contents were investigated of some taxa belonging to Neckeraceae (Alleniella complanata, Alleniella besseri, Exsertotheca crispa) and Hypnaceae (Hypnum cupressiforme, Hypnum resupinatum, Hypnum andoi) family collected from Kamilet Valley (Artvin-Arhavi) in 2017. DPPH free radical scavenging activity was determined according to the method developed by Brand-Williams et al. The fatty acids in extracts were analyzed via gas chromatography after transforming them into methyl esters. According to the obtained results, it was determined that the DPPH scavenging effects of taxa from Hypnaceae family were significantly higher than those of taxa from Neckeraceae family, and that the free radical scavenging effects of taxa from Hypnaceae family varied depending on the amount of extract. The saturated fatty acids content of the Neckeraceae and the unsaturated fatty acids of the Hypnaceae were found to be richer (p<0.001). The high DPPH activity in our study, especially in Hypnum species, suggested that Hypnum species were richer in terms of phenolic content. These compounds can be used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food sectors, if both of these species are phenolic and fatty acid content can be obtained as pure.

Fish cells have been accepted as an alternative to in vivo assay for inflammatory effects of therapeutic experimental systems. To reveal the anti-inflammatory effects of Inula viscosa (IV) fish cell line RTG-2, derived from the gonadal tissue of rainbow trout, was infected with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Effective concentrations for different concentrations of LPS (1, 5, 10, 20 mu M) and IN (1, 5, 10, 20 mu g ml(-1)) were determined. While the 20 mu M concentration of LPS, which was effectively selected from preliminary tests, caused 27% cell loss, the effective 1 mu g ml-1 concentration of IN caused 1.1% proliferation in the cells when compared to the control group. All pro-inflammatory parameters investigated in LPS-induced RTG-2 cells showed up-regulation, with the highest increase in TNF-alpha gene expression level (11.3 fold changes). Down-regulation was determined in the IN together with LPS administered group and IL-1 beta had the highest effect with 96%. IL-6 protein level decreased by LPS at a rate of 4% and IN together with LPS increased by 9%. The IN exhibited significant efficacy against inflammation caused by LPS. However, further studies are needed to determine pharmacological activity of I. viscosa in details.

Blair et al. [7] introduced the notion of bicontact manifold in the context of Hermitian geometry. Bande and Hadjar [1] studied on this notion under the name of contact pairs. These type of structures have important properties and their geometry is some different from classical contact structures. In this paper, we study on some semi-symmetry properties of the normal contact pair manifolds. We prove that a Ricci semi-symmetric (or concircularly Ricci semi-symmetric) normal metric contact pair manifold is a generalized quasi-Einstein manifold. Also, we classify normal metric contact pair manifolds as a generalized quasi-Einstein manifold with certain semi-symmetry conditions L (X, Z).R = 0, R(X, Z).L = 0 and L (X, Z).L = 0 for the concircular curvature tensor L, the Riemannian curvature tensor R, and an arbitrary vector field X.

Yanar, Mahmut; Özdes, Ali; Erdogan, Erhan; Evliyaoglu, Ece
Thermal tolerance parameters of swordtail (Xiphophorus maculatus) and platy (X. helleri) at three acclimation temperatures were determined in the study. The CTMin values at 20, 24 and 28 degrees C acclimation temperature were 9.41,10.42 and 11.95 degrees C respectively for platy and 9.38,11.5 and 13.23 degrees C for swordtail, while CTMax values were 37.41, 39.19 and 40.52 degrees C for platy and 36.94, 38.89 and 40.07 degrees C for swordtail. Accordingly, acclimation temperature affected the lower and upper temperature tolerances of fish by 3-4 degrees C. The CTMin ARR values varied between 0.42-0.42 in swordtail and 0.20-0.34 in platy, while CTMax ARR ranged between 0.29-0.48 in swordtail and 0.33-0.44 in platy depending on acclimation temperature. Thermal tolerance polygon area of platy (232 degrees C-2) was slightly higher than that of swordtail (217.3 degrees C). The fact that both fish species have lower temperature tolerances limits their geographic distribution and aquaculture in subtropical climates where the water temperature drops to 10 degrees C in winter.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2021TREND ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF RAIN ON SOLAR ENERGY PRODUCTION IN A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Korkmaz, Meral
The greatest need of the modern world is energy. From production to consumption, energy has become essential in all areas. As fossil-derived energy production systems cause global warming and climate change, interest in renewable energy sources is increasing. Despite the pandemic, solar production has shown promising growth throughout the world. Turkey has been encouraging investments in renewable energy sources, especially solar energy, for the last 10 years. Feasibility studies before the installation of solar power plants are crucial for investors. As a result of feasibility studies, the cost of the investment and the depreciation period can be calculated. In this study, feasibility studies of the 474 kWp power plant in Samsun province were carried out with PVsyst program. Significant differences were found between the software results and the actual results of the solar plant built in Samsun province. Production losses between actual data and numerical data are thought to be related to meteorological data. There are numerous studies in the literature about PV software. However. current studies have not examined the effect of meteorological data of the region on the difference in production between PV software results and solar power plant production values. In this study, the Sen method was used to determine the precipitation trend by taking meteorological data from Samsun province. With this method, rainfall in Samsun province was seen to be on an upward trajectory. For this reason, in regions where there is a lot of precipitation; feasibility studies of solar power plants are falling by approximately 9 percent.

Sançar, Taylan
Collision of the Arabian and Eurasian plates has resulted in uplift of the Turkish-Iranian Plateau, where debate continues over how post-collisional convergence is being converted to strain. The internal deformation models of the plateau have taken into account the distribution of deformation in the NW-trending Bitlis-Zagros Mountain Range (BZMR), the southern boundary of the collision. The western end of the BZMR is marked by contrasting topographic relief resulting from the coupling of tectonic and erosional processes. This region providing an excellent record for undertaking quantitative analysis which can improve our understanding of its tectonic evolution. Mountain front analyses reveal that each fault segment located in front of the western BZMR falls within the limits of Class-1 that corresponds to an uplift rate of >0.5 mm yr(-1). Hypsometric and basin asymmetry analysis were analyzed for 93 drainage basins, indicating that weakly to moderately eroded basins can be moderately to strongly asymmetric but show no uniform tilting direction. Channel concavity, integral and knickpoint analyses suggest that, apart from the thrust fault that represents the margin of the collision zone, there is no pronounced single geological constraint that causes differential tectonic uplift and furthermore implies that the effect is distributed across multiple different structures. The findings of this study suggest that continuous lower rate horizontal displacement has occurred in this region since the onset of collision, but also indicates that the western end of the BZMR represents a zone of higher convergence, in which shortening is being converted to the vertical plane strain.

Aydin, Sevinc
The Vitis vinifera L. grape species is a fruit that is the most prevalently grown in the whole world and has economic significance. It is known that, due to its climate conditions, Turkey has rich resources in terms of Vitis vinifera L. With this study, we aimed to determine the phenolic, vitamin and fatty acid contents of the Okuzgozu and Bogazkere varieties of Vitis vinifera L. and see the effects of these contents on antioxidant activity. Fatty acids in the lipid extract were analyzed by gas chromatography after conversion into methyl esters. For flavonoid and vitamin analyses, a high-performance liquid chromatography device (HPLC-UV. Shimadzu) was used. Antioxidant activity was determined by Radical Scavenging Activity (DPPH) and Lipid Peroxidation (MDA) experiments, As a result of the study, some saturated and unsaturated fatty acid, phenolic compound and vitamin contents of the two varieties were obtained. It was observed that the amounts of unsaturated fatty acids, whose effects on antioxidant activity are known, in the Okuzgozu variety were significantly higher than those in the Bogazkere variety. The results on phenolic and vitamin compounds revealed higher amounts in the Okuzgozu variety in comparison to Bogazkere as in the case of fatty acids. The finding that these contents and antioxidant activity were in proportion suggested that the antioxidant effect of the Okuzgozu variety is higher. If the substances that provide this effect are correctly isolated from the plant, they may be used beneficially in both the food and pharmaceutical sectors.

Kizilkoca, Mustafa; Namli, Aysel Kizilkaya
This study aims to determine the effect of coaches' perception of executive support on job satisfaction. A relational screening model was used in the study for this purpose. Disproportionate sampling was used within the scope of the study, and 516 coaches working in various provinces of Turkey composed a sample of the study. The scale of executive support developed by Karasek et.al (1985) and adapted by Kula (2011) and the scale of job satisfaction made by Bilir and Keser (2019) was used in the collection of data. Pearson Correlation analysis was used to reveal the relationship between scores from scales, Linear Regression analysis was used to determine whether the scores obtained affected each other. Error level in the study was taken as p<0.01. It has been determined that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between the executive support levels of coaches in Turkey and the levels of job satisfaction. It can be said that as the level of executive support increases, the levels of job satisfaction increase. According to linear regression analysis, it was determined that the level of executive support positively affected the job satisfaction levels of coaches. It was observed that the executives' support scores of coaches in Turkey were higher than average with an average of 3.53 and job satisfaction scores were high with an average of 4.08 in our study.
