ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS AS NEW ALTERNATIVE METHOD TO ESTIMATING SOME POPULATION PARAMETERS OF TIGRIS LOACH (OXYNOEMACHEILUS TIGRIS (HECKEL, 1843)) IN THE KARASU RIVER, TURKEY

    Ozcan, Ebru Ifakat; Serdar, Osman

In this study, a new method (Artificial Neural Networks) to estimating some population parameters of Tigris loach (Oxynoemacheilus tigris (Heckel, 1843)) collected between 2014 and 2015 in 14 different stations from Karasu River (East Anatolia, Turkey). The total length and weight of the species ranged from 62 to105 mm and from 1.7 to 10.9 g for females and 65 to 100 mm and from 2.4 to 9.8 g for males, respectively. The new maximum length for O. tigris was found to be 105 mm in this study. The length-weight relation of O. tigris was carried out with artificial neural networks (ANNs) and length-weight relationships (LWRs). The results obtained were compared. Length-weight relationships of O. tigris were found as W=0.0049*L-3.29 , R-2 =0.95 for all individuals. According to these values, the growth type of this species was positive allometric (b>3) for all individuals. Regression analysis showed that fish length has high significant correlation with weight (R=0.97, R-2 =0.95, F-1,F-185=31930.3, P<0.001). According to the comparison of the results obtained with MAPE (%), ANNs provide better results than the LWRs. The results of this study could give useful insight that ANNs can be evaluated as an alternative for length-weight relation estimation. The condition factor values (min-max) were observed as 0.680-1.239 for females and 0.699-1.074 for males. No studies have been done before on this species population parameters.

    Geography of OBOR Attempt

    Güner, Bulent

OBOR attempt has manifested the force of Chinese geopolitics and geoeconomics. OBOR is a project where China places in its center and also involves Asia, Europe, Middle East and partly the Africa. Transportation networks, telecommunication, energy networks with the international integration are aimed at this project. OBOR attempt has pretty large territorial limits. It covers 69 member countries, 65% of the world population, 42% of the world's GDP, 75% of the energy reserves known, 40% of the square measure of lands of the world. China has planned the attempt to bring into force in 2049 when will be the 100th year of the foundation of PRC by completing the infrastructure investments within 30-35 years. Much as completing the project has extended over a period, China targets to reach $ 2,5 trillion of annual trade volume among OBOR countries within ten years. OBOR must not be seen as just composed of the infrastructure projects. It is observed that the attempt is going to turn into an international integration by the adaptation in commercial law, establishing free trade areas, and the customs treatises. This paper aims to analyze OBOR attempt that is the subject of the geographical location of the developing processes.

    Aminoacids in freshwater fish

    Özçiçek, Esin; Can, Erkan

Proteins, which are the most important substances in the structure of living organism, are polymers of aminoacids with their chemical qualities. Aminoacids can be converted into other substances during metabolism, and can be used in the synthesis of certain chemical structures that the body needs. While more than 90% of the amino acids in the structure of living organisms are present in the protein, the other part is found as free aminoacids in all tissues and body fluids. Fish cannot synthesize all the aminoacids in their body. Unsynthesised aminoacids must be given to fish with feed. The use of proteins in the embryological and larval stages is very important, and free aminoacids are one of the most important components of energy metabolism. Aminoacids are also used as quality indices for various fish species. Studies have shown that freshwater fish require especially essential amino acids. These; arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine. In this study; information on the importance of aminoacids in freshwater fish has been compiled.

TIME-INDEPENDENT RHEOLOGICAL BEHAVIOUR OF PEANUT BUTTER: MODELLING AND ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK APPLICATION

    Yogurtcu, Hakan

In this study, the rheological behaviour of semisolid peanut butter samples with a fat ratio of 42.7 % were examined in a temperature interval of 10-50 degrees C via rotational rheometer at different shear rates. Peanut butter samples display non-Newtonian yield-pseudoplastic behaviour. Seven model equalities were used for representing the time-independent rheological behaviour of peanut butter and the representation ability of the models were determined by way of determination coefficient (r(2)), mean absolute percentage error (MA%E), chi-square (chi(2)) and root mean square error (RMSE) statistical parameters. It was observed that the O'foli model was the most successful among the models applied to experimental data. Temperature dependency of viscosity at shear rates of 0.1, 0.4 and 0.75 s(-1) was determined via Arrhenius equality and activation energies varied between the interval of 46818.63-51952.52 J/mol. Three-layer model suggested for estimating viscosity using artificial neural network method was observed to be quite successful.

SYNTHESIZING, CHITOSAN COATING AND DETECTING THE NANOTOXIC EFFECT OF THE LEAD SELENIDE (PbSe) QUANTUM DOTS

    Yilmaz, E.; Ates, M.; Sahilli, Y. C.

Researches on nano-structured materials (<100 nm) are increasing rapidly in the direction of technological developments. Synthesis and modification of quantum dots, known as nanomaterials and nanocrystals, have become an important aspect of nanotechnology. The reason for this is that it has many potential applications in the field, including biomedicine and pharmacology. The unique properties and biological effects of nanostructured particles indicate that they can potentially be used as an alternative in the treatment of various diseases. In this work, PbSe quantum dots were synthesized by chemical method and modified by chitosan coating. The characterization of PbSe was done by TEM, SEM, XRD, DLS and Zeta potential analysis methods. When the morphological structures of the quantum dots obtained by chemical synthesis were examined, round and spherical nano-sized particles (<20 nm) of all PbSe were obtained according to TEM and SEM results. It has been seen that PbSe quantum dots have a positive (+) surface charge and are highly stable (40 + mV). In addition, the increase in oxidation resistance of PbSe coated with chitosan was found in XRD results. As a result of this research, small size and biopolymer coated and thus more stable quantum dots could be obtained. It has also been found that PbSe quantum dots coated with biopolymers like chitosan may have the potential to be used in pharmacology and biomedical applications.

    Çelik, E.; Aslan, A. K.

In this study, the powder mixture which consists of Cu-Fe-Co was produced by using the method of hot pressing technique. In addition, effect of heat treatment process on microstructure and mechanical properties of this alloy was investigated. Following the hot pressing process applied on the samples, heat treatment was carried out at 950 degrees C for two different dwelling times (90 and 180 minutes). Measured density values were considered as physical characteristics, while hardness and fracture strength values were considered as mechanical characteristics. It was observed that porosity rates of hot pressed samples were decreased by increasing of temperature and pressing parameters. In this study it was observed that Cu was spread in matrix and filled the micro porosities. Hardness values were determined to be decreased as a result of grain growth after heat treatment process. That 4 fold increased elongation % values which were achieved by TRS experiments were observed as well.

The Origin of Stepped Rock-Cut Tunnels in Eastern Anatolia

    Koroglu, Kemalettin; Danismaz, Harun

Stepped rock-cut tunnels are among the most interesting remains at many fortresses in Eastern Anatolia. The construction of these tunnels, which are cut deep into rock surfaces up to a length of 350 m, must have been at least as difficult as that of the fortification walls and expertise would have been required. Stepped rock-cut tunnels and associated fortresses in Eastern Anatolia have not so far been evaluated as a whole. The stepped rock tunnels in Eastern Anatolia have been accepted as one of the basic criteria indicating the Urartian period since the beginning of the 20th century. In this study, we first consider the types of stepped rock-cut tunnels in Eastern Anatolia, the purposes of their construction, and their distribution. We then discuss their dating and our interpretation of the period of their arrival in the region of Eastern Anatolia.

Senel, Mine; Senel, Bilgin; Havle, Celal Alpay; Cattani, C; Atangana, A; Bulut, H; Hammouch, Z; Baskonus, HM; Mekkaoui, T; Agoujil, S

Today, international trade is extremely important for countries' economies. It is possible to show the ship's transport as one of the most important execution channels of this trade. International commercial maritime transport subject to many rules and regulations carries many risks in processes such as loading, handling and unloading. Commercial ports are the places where these risks are seen intensely. From this point, many risk components in terms of the process in the port, one of the international commercial port in Turkey, based on a risk analysis is tried to be evaluated in this study. Especially, loading and unloading processes are focused with the directions of industrial experts. The main dimensions of the risks in the port are determined via expert opinions, and the sub-criteria of these dimensions are revealed. In this way, a generic model is proposed based on failure mode and effect analysis and the model is digitized using intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS. Interpretations are made in the direction of the obtained analysis results.

The new findings on the Late Devonian volcanism in the Eastern Taurides (Develi, Kayseri): Preliminary data

    Çimen, Okay

The Tauride-Anatolide Platfom includes of widespread Paleozoic (Cambrian to Permian) units, which rarely consist magmatic rocks that were identified in two areas: Eastern Taurides (SW of Tufanbeyli and Yahyali) and Central Taurides (Northern Konya). There are problematic views related to the magmatic evolution of these rocks. The available geochemical database is mostly concentrated on the magmatics from the Central Taurides (Konya Region). In this study, the mafic volcanic rocks were recently found in the Eastern Taurides (Develi-Kayseri). These mafic volcanics are intercalated with the Late Devonian limestones and covered by the Early Carboniferous sandstones. The geochemical charateristics of the volcanic rocks exhibit back arc basin (BAB) features with slightly negative Nb anomalies, normal-MORB (NMORB)-like high field strength element (HFSE) patterns and flat REE profile. The newly found basic volcanic rocks in the Eastern Taurides geochemically resemble the meta-diabase dykes in the Konya and Yahyali regions, which were assigned to a subduction related event. The new data reported in this study will benefit to better understand the mid-Paleozoic evolution of the Taurides.

Lavery's Frozen: The Psychosexual History of a Sexual Predator and the Poetics of Anti-Paedophilia

    Ögütcü, Uyesi Murat

Bryony Lavery is an important figure in British feminist drama. She has been noted by critics for her unconventional theatrical methods and themes. Her Frozen (1998) is an anti-paedophiliac play that deals with a psychiatrist who tries to investigate the motives of a paedophile. Investigations into the past of the sexual predator blur the lines between the victim and the victimiser, and the acts of forgiving by the wronged family challenge conventional motifs of revenge. Lavery's use of black and dark comedy further challenges conventional ways of dealing with such serious matters. Therefore, by presenting the psychosexual history of the sexual predator in Bryony Lavery's Frozen, this article will analyse the social and psychological reasons behind sexual abuse in the play, and discuss Lavery's unconventional poetics of anti-paedophilia.

Risk Assessment with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and Grey Relational Analysis Method in Plastic Injection Process

Ünlükal, Ceren; Senel, Mine; Senel, Bilgin; Cattani, C; Atangana, A; Bulut, H; Hammouch, Z; Baskonus, HM; Mekkaoui, T; Agoujil, S

This study aims to evaluate the risks that may arise during the production process in a plastic injection manufacturing enterprise with traditional Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA). Although it is a widely used analytical technique that helps to identify and reduce the risks of failure in a process, the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) has some drawbacks that the different risks can have the same risk priority values and the weight of risk factors is not take into consideration. This situation has been tried to be eliminated by integrating the FMEA with the GRA. As a result, it is seen that the order of risk priority values of the identified failure changes according to both methods.

Morphometric Characteristics of the Glacial Cirques on Mount Dedegol

    Çilgin, Zeynel; Bayrakdar, Cihan

This study investigates the morphometric characteristics of 30 glacial cirques developed on Mount Dedegol (2992 m) in the western Taurus mountain belt of southwestern Turkey. The elevation, slope, size, and shape characteristics of the cirques are analyzed and classifieded according to their developmental stages based on morphometric parameters. The development of cirques and their distinctive features are basically due to the pre-glacial topography, elevation, and aspect, and partly due to the local tectonic and geological structures. Nearly three-quarter of the cirques (73.3%) were developed in the N, NE, and NW aspects, which area less exposed to solar radiation. The average floor altitude of the cirques is 2543 m, and on the north-facing slopes, the cirques grew at lower elevations. From the morphometric measurements of the cirques, their mean length, width, and area are 600 m, 534 m, and 0.27 km(2) , respectively, revealing that the lengths of most cirques are slightly larger than the corresponding widths. The cirques have distinctive features regarding forms, as they exist as troughs or simple, staircase, or compound cirques, and they are located at the head or slopes of the glacial valleys, or on an area isolated from the valley. We assessed and classified the cirques according to their developmental stages. The assessment results show that there are 11 well-developed cirques in the mountain and the remaining 19 are either moderately or poorly developed. The evaluation also shows that at the onset of the glaciations, the appropriately located cirques developed into mature cirques because of the facilitative environment.

The role of intraplate strike-slip faults in shaping the surrounding morphology: The Ovacik Fault (eastern Turkey) as a case study

Yazici, Muge; Zabci, Cengiz; Sançar, Taylan; Natalin, Boris A.

Although the westward extrusion of the Anatolian Block is mainly compensated along its boundary faults, the North Anatolian and the East Anatolian shear zones, it is internally deformed in a dominant manner by some strike-slip faults as well. To obtain a better understanding about this intraplate deformation of the Anatolian Block, we investigate the tectonic geomorphology of the Ovaak Fault (OF), which is the northeastern member of the Malatya-Ovaak Fault Zone (MOFZ). Further, we apply the most common geomorphic indices, such as the hypsometric curve and integral, longitudinal channel profiles, channel steepness and concavity, mountain front sinuosity, and valley height-width ratio to characterise and quantify the deformation along the OF and the surrounding region where the regional morphology is shaped with the joint effect of palaeo- and neotectonics and other morphological factors such as palaeoglacial processes. The highest hypsometric integral, steepness and concavity values are generally observed along the northeastern strand of the OF (the Munzur Mountains) and the Kemaliye Region. Further, we interpret that high HI and steepness values indicate a regional tectonic uplift because of either a change in fault geometry, which gives rise to the vertical component on the OF, or a regional high convergence zone. Furthermore, this study gives the first calculation of vertical uplift in the northern margin of the Ovacik Basin (OB) as at least 0.5 mm/y for long term deformation history. Thus, our results exhibit that the OF is one of the intraplate strike-slip faults of the Anatolian Block. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
