- MakaleYalnız künye2013Scopus SJRQ3The Anesthetic Effects of Clove Oil and 2-Phenoxyethanol on Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) at Different Concentrations and Temperatures
Yildiz, M.; Kayim, M.; Akin, S.
In this study, anesthetic effects of five different concentrations of 2-phenoxyethanol (0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 ml/L) and clove oil (0.50, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25 and 1.50 ml/L) on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were studied at temperatures 7, 13 and 18 degrees C. For this purpose, 900 fish (39.08 +/- 1.13 g and 15.48 +/- 0.21 cm) were used in the experiment. Induction time of 2-phenoxyethanol and clove oil varied between 1.05 and 3.36 min at all concentrations, except for 0.2 ml/L (for 2-phenoxyethanol only) and at every temperature application. Full recovery time occurred between 2.44 and 7.14 min for 2-phenoxyethanol and 3.23 - 6.11 min for clove oil. It was found that full recovery times significantly increased with increase in 2-phenoxyethanol concentrations (r(2)=0.81). The same increasing trend was observed in clove oil, but the increase was not strong compared to 2-phenoxyethanol (r(2)=0.21). On the other hand, full induction times of 2-Phenoxyethanol and clove oil significantly declined with the increase in concentrations (r(2)=0.74; r(2)=0.84 for 2-phenoxyethanol and clove oil, respectively). Based on the ideal induction (less than 3 min) and recovery (less than 5 min) time criteria, it can be suggested that the most appropriate concentrations for rainbow trout were 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 ml/L for 2-phenoxyethanol and 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 ml/L for clove oil.

- MakaleYalnız künye2013Scopus SJRQ2MULTI OBJECTIVE GENERALIZED RESOURCE CONSTRAINED TWO SIDED ASSEMBLY LINE BALANCING PROBLEM AND COMPUTATIONAL ANALAYSIS
Mete, Suleyman; Agpak, Kursad
Assembly of large size products like bus, truck and automobile can perform both sides of assembly line. In such cases, both sides (right and left) of the line are used to achieve for the assembly operation. These types of the lines are called as two sided assembly lines. When large size products are produced, sometimes they require a specific machine or a qualified staff to use this machine. This condition also exposes the problem of resource constraint. Therefore, in this study, a mathematical model for generalized resource constraint two sided assembly line balancing problem is presented, based on literature models and computational analysis is performed for multi-objective situation. Proposed model is run and analyzed over several known test problems by considering three objective functions (Minimization number of station, number of position and resource cost).

- MakaleAçık Erişim2013Scopus SJRQ1Survival of Listeria monocytogenes during Production and Ripening of Traditional Turkish Savak Tulum Cheese and in Synthetic Gastric Fluid
Dikici, Abdullah; Calicioglu, Mehmet
This study investigated the survival and acid tolerance of Listeria monocytogenes during the 2-day processing stage and 90-day ripening of Savak tulum cheese, a traditional cheese in Turkey. Experimental Savak tulum cheese was produced from raw sheep's milk that was inoculated with a L. monocytogenes mixture consisting of five strains (average 7.0 log CFU/ml) and was ripened at 6 degrees C for 90 days. Microbiological and chemical analyses and acid exposure experiments in synthetic gastric fluid (SGF) (pH 1.5 to 2.5) were carried out on days 1 and 2 during processing and on days 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, and 90 during ripening. The numbers of L. monocytogenes did not decrease during processing, but a total of 4.1 log CFU/g reduction was observed during ripening. Throughout the ripening period, L. monocytogenes cells survived direct 90-min exposures of the cheese samples to SGF. These results suggest that, although the pathogen numbers decreased in Savak tulum cheese ripened at 6 degrees C for 90 days, a sublethal environment may have occurred in the cheese during the production stage, activating the acid-tolerance mechanisms of the pathogen and allowing L. monocytogenes to maintain its viability in the SGF for 90 min.

- MakaleYalnız künye2013Scopus SJRQ2Micelle nano-reactors as mediators of water-insoluble ligand complexation with Cu(II) ions in aqueous medium
Adigüzel, Ragip; Tascioglu, Senay
Complexation reactions between water-soluble and -insoluble reactants were shown to occur in aqueous media in the presence of normal or reverse surfactant micelles, in significantly higher yields at lower temperatures compared to those achieved in neat organic solvents. The highest yield enhancement in the complexation of novel water-insoluble bis(2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazolyl)methane and 1,4-bis(2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazolyl)benzene ligands with Cu(II) ions was achieved in the sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT)-heptane-water reverse micellar system at the hydration ratio of 15. The results revealed that AOT normal micelles cause a change in the reaction mechanism together with the enhancement of the complex formation. The observed micellar effects were rationalized on basis of the properties of bulk solvents, surfactants and ligands, considering the solvation and hydration ratios of reverse micelles. The results have proved the dependence of complex yield on the amount and accordingly also on the properties of water in the micellar core, indicating that the yield can be maximized by the optimization of the hydration ratio.

- MakaleYalnız künye2013Scopus SJRQ1Extrusion Cooking of Lentil Flour (Lens Culinaris-Red)-Corn Starch-Corn Oil Mixtures
Dogan, H.; Gueven, A.; Hicsasmaz, Z.
An expanded food product was obtained from lentil flourcorn starchcorn oil mixtures by extrusion cooking. Effects of protein, lipid, and moisture contents of the feed mixture; cooking temperature and screw speed on starch gelatinization; protein insolubility; and lipid complexation were investigated. Effects of these functional properties on expansion ratio, cell size distribution, and cutting strength were assessed. Optimum feed composition was 67% lentil flour, 30% corn starch, and 3% corn oil (db). This mixture was processed at 15% moisture content and 178 degrees C temperature. Expansion ratio was 3.7 and degree of gelatinization was 0.70.

Kalafat, Mustafa; Ozan, Yildiray; Arguez, Hulya
We construct self-dual (SD) but not locally conformally flat (LCF) metrics on families of non-simply connected 4-manifolds with small signature. We construct various sequences with bounded or unbounded Betti numbers and Euler characteristic. These metrics have negative scalar curvature. As an application, this is used to address Remark 4.79 of [1]. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

- MakaleYalnız künye2013Scopus SJRQ3Elimination of Radiation Damping Effects from the NMR Relaxation Curves of H2O/D2O Mixtures Containing Protein and Ions
Zengin, Bilgin; Koylu, Mehmet Zafer; Korunur, Sibel; Yilmaz, Ali
In this work the T-1 and T-2 curves of H2O/D2O mixtures were obtained for several fractions of H2O and also for different amounts of albumin and manganese. The experiments were carried out with a 400 MHz proton NMR spectrometer. The T-1 and the T-2 curves were determined by the inversion recovery (IR) and Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) sequences, respectively. The relaxation times in residual water and in a mixture with 0.05 ml H2O were found to be reliable either in the presence or in the absence of albumin. The mixtures containing 0.1 ml or higher H2O suffer from radiation damping (RD). RD was removed gradually by addition of albumin or manganese. RD in the protein solution with 0.1 ml H2O was removed by adding 1 mu g of manganese to one ml of solution. The data suggest that the relaxation times in H2O/D2O mixtures are measurable by conventional methods upon the addition of appropriate amounts of manganese and albumin.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2013Scopus SJRQ3Mechanical and thermal properties of polyamide versus reinforced PMMA denture base materials
Soygun, Koray; Bolayir, Giray; Boztug, Ali
PURPOSE. This in vitro study intended to investigate the mechanical and thermal characteristics of Valplast, and of polymethyl methacrylate denture base resin in which different esthetic fibers (E-glass, nylon 6 or nylon 6.6) were added. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Five groups were formed: control (PMMA), PMMA-E glass, PMMA-nylon 6, PMMA-nylon 6.6 and Valplast resin. For the transverse strength test the specimens were prepared in accordance with ANSI/ADA specification No.12, and for the impact test ASTM D-256 standard were used. With the intent to evaluate the properties of transverse strength, the three-point bending (n=7) test instrument (Lloyd NK5, Lloyd Instruments Ltd, Fareham Hampshire, UK) was used at 5 mm/min. A Dynatup 9250 HV (Instron, UK) device was employed for the impact strength (n=7). All of the resin samples were tested by using thermo-mechanical analysis (Shimadzu TMA 50, Shimadzu, Japan). The data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Tukey tests for pairwise comparisons of the groups at the 0.05 level of significance. RESULTS. In all mechanical tests, the highest values were observed in Valplast group (transverse strength: 117.22 +/- 37.80 MPa, maximum deflection: 27.55 +/- 1.48 mm, impact strength: 0.76 +/- 0.03 kN). Upon examining the thermo-mechanical analysis data, it was seen that the E value of the control sample was 8.08 MPa, higher than that of the all other samples. CONCLUSION. Although Valplast denture material has good mechanical strength, its elastic modulus is not high enough to meet the standard of PMMA materials.
