Iron Age and Later Periods in an Isolated Region: The Bingol-Solhan Fortress

    Danismaz, Harun; Köroglu, Kemalettin

Solhan Kalesi [Solhan Fortress] lies at the western tip of the Solhan Plain from which it derives its name. The fortress site was discovered in 2019 during surveys. Drywall fortifications reinforced with bastions and foundations from various buildings inside the fortification walls have been documented at the site. Ceramics and slag found at Solhan Fortress indicate that the site may have been a tribal center in the Iron Age. However, the architectural features of the fortress, especially the fortifications with bastions, are notably different from other Iron Age sites in the region. Surface finds do not include painted or glazed ceramics from the Medieval Period. Current findings indicate Solhan Fortress to have been inhabited for a long period from the Middle Iron Age to the Medieval Period.

On the Archimedean copula constructed from the Bezier polynomial type diagonal section

    Susam, Selim Orhun

In this study, we construct a convex Bezier type diagonal section which uniquely characterizes the Archimedean copula. The proposed diagonal section is flexible according to its polynomial degree; hence, we can add the additional parameters to the diagonal section by increasing the polynomial degree. We also present a graphical tool based on the diagonal section in order to visualize the different types of Archimdean copulas in the copula test space. As an illustration, the real data examples are given.

APPLICATION OF RAINWATER HARVESTING TO MUNZUR UNIVERSITY CAMPUS AND EXAMINATION OF CONTRIBUTIONS

    Korkmaz, Meral

The world is facing drought, and over time, water problems are becoming more serious. Agricultural land and green areas are gradually declining due to water scarcity. While the amount of available water is gradually decreasing, people's unnecessary use of water and water consumption are increasing. This, in turn, requires the accurate use of existing water resources and the realization of intelligent building systems as soon as possible. Despite this fact, none of the university's public buildings currently use systems such as the rainwater harvesting technique. The main aims of this research are to find effective results in terms of savings and to contribute to avoiding water shortages in the future. It is important today to immediately begin making future housing with these systems and to integrate these intelligent systems into public buildings, especially incorporating the latest technologies. In this study, the advantages of zero-energy built roofs and rainwater harvesting systems on the Munzur University campus are evaluated.

OTTOMAN MILLING FROM CLASSICAL TO MODERN TIMES

    Baskutlu, Salih

This article explores flour milling in the Ottoman State from traditional grinding techniques to modern grinding technologies. Although it investigates the historical progress of flour milling in general, the study aims to draw attention to the technological transformation in the milling industry. This scope focuses on the milling types used in the Ottoman world during the premodern periods. Secondly, it uncovers its milling activities and tax policies. Then, the article examines the emergence, development, operating systems, and legal structure of steam mills concerning industrialization efforts. To this end, it studies the competition between traditional mills and steam mills, its causes, and its effects on society. The study presents drawings of the mill models based on the documents found in Ottoman State Archives and to other sources. Grinding the grains with vital importance and serving them to public consumption was one of the primary concerns of the Ottoman State. For this reason, they operated water, wind, and muscle-powered mills for a long time. The emergence of industrialization brought about steam mills with high production capacity. The Ottomans, accordingly, followed the developments carefully to provide the citizens with healthier and hygienic flour with new production models.

Analysis of discontinuous contact problem in two functionally graded layers resting on a rigid plane by using finite element method

    Polat, Alper; Kaya, Yusuf

In this study, the problem of discontinuous contact in two functionally graded (FG) layers resting on a rigid plane and loaded by two rigid blocks is solved by the finite element method (FEM). Separate analyzes are made for the cases where the top surfaces of the problem layers are metal, the bottom surfaces are ceramic and the top surfaces are ceramic and the bottom surfaces are metal. For the problem, it is accepted that all surfaces are frictionless. A two-dimensional FEM analysis of the problem is made by using a special macro added to the ANSYS package program The solution of this study, which has no analytical solution in the literature, is given with FEM. Analyzes are made by loading different Q and P loads on the blocks. The normal stress (sigma y) distributions at the interfaces of FG layers and between the substrate and the rigid plane interface are obtained. In addition, the starting and ending points of the separations between these surfaces are determined. The normal stresses (sigma x, sigma y) and shear stresses (tau xy) at the point of separation are obtained along the depth. The results obtained are shown in graphics and tables. With this method, effective results are obtained in a very short time. In addition, analytically complex and long problems can be solved with this method.

TAIL DEPENDENCE ESTIMATION BASED ON SMOOTH ESTIMATION OF DIAGONAL SECTION

    Susam, Selim Orhun

This paper is mainly developed around the diagonal section which is strongly related to tail dependence coefficients as defined in Nelsen [19]. Hence, we propose a flexible method for estimating tail dependence coefficients based on the new smooth estimation of the diagonal section based on the Bernstein polynomial approximation. To assess the performance of the new estimators we conduct the Monte-Carlo simulation study. As a result of the simulation study, both estimators perform satisfactory performance. Also, the estimation methods are illustrated by real data examples.

Anatomical, Micromorphological, Karyological and Biochemical study of Scutellaria orientalis subsp. virens and Scutellaria salviifolia

Acar, Mikail; Tasar, Neslihan; Akbulut, Guelcin Beker

In this study, the anatomical and micromorphological structure, karyological characteristics and biochemical content of Scutellaria orientalis subsp. virens and endemic Scutellaria salviifolia, whose distributions areas overlap, were compared. Some anatomical and micromorphological differences were observed on the taxa; scleranchymatic pericycle layer on the stem, stomata density, distribution of trichomes, as well as the main vascular bundle and general shape of the petiole. The chromosome numbers of both taxa were determined as 2n = 22. However, there was a difference between chromosome length range and total chromosome length. The chromosome numbers and chromosome morphologies of these species have been defined for the first time in this paper. Differences in biochemical content were observed between species. Chlorophyll a (Chl a), total chlorophyll (Total Chl), total carbohydrate and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents were determined higher in leaf and stem samples of S. orientalis subsp. virens than S. salviifolia. There was no significant difference between the two taxa in terms of chlorophyll b (Chl b) content. Carotenoid (Car) content was detected higher in leaves samples of S. orientalis subsp. virens, but no significant difference was found between stems samples. Also, the effect of taxa on biochemical contents in relation to the habitat they live in is given in this study.

Some results on N (k)-contact metric manifolds

Altin, Mustafa; Yoldas, Halil Ibrahim; Ünal, Inan

In this study, some geometric properties of N(k)-contact metric manifolds, which are important class of contact manifolds, have been investigated by using a special connection (CY-connection). First, we give some fundamental results on N(k)-contact metric manifolds admitting CY-connection. Then, we obtain curvature properties of such manifolds. We prove that an N(k)-contact metric manifold admitting R* (xi, X).R* = 0 condition is an N (-1/4) metric manifold, where R* is the Riemannian curvature tensor of CY-connection. Also, we examine an N(k)-contact metric manifold admitting CY-connection under W* (xi, X).S* = 0 condition for generalized quasi-conformal curvature tensor W* of CY-connection. Finally, we consider a 3-dimensional N(k)-contact metric manifold admitting CY-connection.
